The infrared and Raman spectra of solid tridehydropeptides : influence of ΔAla and ΔPhe on the spectral profile

Abstract A series of solid tripeptides Boc-Gly-X-Gly-OMe (X = dehydroalanine (ΔAla), dehydrophenylalanine (ΔPhe)) was investigated by Raman scattering and Fourier transform infrared spectra to examine the conformational marker bands of the unsaturated residue. The observed fundamental modes gave us the opportunity to analyze structural features that change due to the substitution of Ala by ΔAla and due to the different spatial arrangement of ΔPhe ( Z and E isomers). In addition, we showed the alteration of the spectral profile when the large size residue (Phe) is introduced into the backbone of the peptide with ΔPhe (in Boc-Gly-Δ (Z) Phe-Phe-OMe). High‐temperature behavior of impurities and dimensionality of the charge transport in unintentionally and tin‐doped indium selenide

A systematic study of the electron transport and shallow impurity distribution in indium selenide above room temperature or after an annealing process is reported by means of far‐infrared‐absorption and Hall‐effect measurements. Evidences are found for the existence of a large concentration of deep levels (1012–1013 cm−2), related to impurities adsorbed to stacking faults in this material. Above room temperature impurities can migrate from those defect zones and then become shallow in the bulk. The subsequent large increase of 3D electrons can change the dimensionality of the electron transport, which in most cases was 2D. Near-Infrared Spectra of Water Confined in Silica Hydrogels in the Temperature Interval 365−5 K

We have used a sol−gel technique to obtain optically transparent hydrogels in which water is trapped within a tridimensional disordered silica matrix. A suitable aging of these hydrogels enables to have transparent noncracking samples down to cryogenic temperatures. We report the optical absorption spectra, in the near-infrared region, of water trapped in our silica hydrogels, measured in the temperature range 365−5 K, and we compare them with the same spectra of liquid water, measured in the temperature range 365−263 K. Colloidal plasmonic back reflectors for light trapping in solar cells.

A novel type of plasmonic light trapping structure is presented in this paper, composed of metal nanoparticles synthesized in colloidal solution and self-assembled in uniform long-range arrays using a wet-coating method. The high monodispersion in size and spherical shape of the gold colloids used in this work allows a precise match between their measured optical properties and electromagnetic simulations performed with Mie theory, and enables the full exploitation of their collective resonant plasmonic behavior for light-scattering applications. Effect of surface impurities on downconversion luminescence of Pr3+, Yb3+ activated SrF2 nanoparticles

Abstract Pr3+,Yb3+ activated SrF2 nanoparticles synthesized by low-temperature hydrothermal method were studied. The composition and size of nanoparticles were intentionally changed by controlling synthesis conditions. After structural and morphological characterization, the spectroscopic properties of the nanoparticles were analyzed in the visible and near infrared spectra ranges. The results show correlation between the gradual change of the amount of carboxylate and hydroxyl moieties on the nanoparticle surface, varied by the size nanoparticles and the quenching of the luminescence. Radiation hardening of Rare-Earth doped fiber amplifiers

We investigated the radiation hardening of optical fiber amplifiers operating in space environments. Through a real-time analysis in active configuration, we evaluated the role of Ce in the improvement of the amplifier performance against ionizing radiations. Ce-codoping is an efficient hardening solution, acting both in the limitation of defects in the host glass matrix of RE-doped optical fibers and in the stabilization of lasing properties of the Er3+-ions. Abstract A global frequency and intensity analysis of the infrared tetrad of 12C2H4 located in the 600 – 1500 cm − 1 region was carried out using the tensorial formalism developed in Dijon for X2Y4 asymmetric-top molecules. It relied on spectroscopic information available in the literature and retrieved from high-resolution Fourier transform infrared spectra recorded in Brussels in the frame of either the present or previous work. International audience; The absorption shapes of the nu(2), nu(3) and nu(4) infrared bands of CH4 perturbed by H-2 in large ranges of pressure and temperature have been measured in the laboratory. In order to model these spectra, the theoretical approach accounting for line-mixing effects proposed for CH4-N-2 and CH4-air and successfully tested in the companion paper (1), is used. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, followed by linear discriminant analysis of the spectral data, was used to classify Italian Pecorino cheeses according to their ripening time and manufacturing technique. The Fourier transform infrared spectra of the cheeses were divided into 18 regions and the normalized absorbance peak areas within these regions were used as predictors. Linear discriminant analysis models were constructed to classify Pecorino cheeses according to different ripening stages (hard and semi-hard) or according to their manufacturing technique (fossa and nonfossa cheeses).
